The power of connecting in our common humanity is magical. Whether it be to create something new, support each other in adversity or celebrate a rite of passage – community brings us together in a unique way so differently than solitude. All of a sudden we have an opportunity to see that we are not alone. All of the thoughts running through our brain are shared and the weight is lifted.
Yes, the details of our story are different, but our humanity at the most simple level is comfortably similar. Our emotions run a similar spectrum and it is so comforting to realize that we are normal. The experience is like a deep breath releasing the heavy weight we’ve been carrying around all by ourselves. Now, we have a community helping to shoulder the journey.
When we share our deep truths of sobbing ourselves to sleep each night, searching for ways to calm the pain or admitting our anger towards life, there is a release into the common realm of humanity that is authentically raw and real. The nodding heads and shared tears help us to see that we are not alone. We are seen by others and the validation creates a pathway leading us out of isolation. The masks of “faking it til we make it” begin to fade away.
The shared stories of accomplishments of the day become a breeding ground for hope. The feat of getting out of bed or the decision to go for a walk and even meet a friend for coffee are all amazing celebrations. Facing fears as we acknowledge the power of our fear brain and tender hearts. Stepping into the unknown as we begin to trust our inner wisdom again. We can witness those moments for each other and relish in the courage it takes to walk these steps.
Together we can see the pain and the joy in each other. We can honor our deepest dark truths and celebrate the joys. We recognize the quiet courage it takes to keep carrying on each day while living with our personal adversity.
As a community we can walk side by side and continue the journey of grief, love, loss and joy. It’s not about fixing each other. It’s about standing next to……..reaching a hand out……giving a hug …….cheering someone on…..crying with…..or when they may have forgotten, reminding them of their truth, worth, bravery and courage.
